Sharon Meriash / Artist's Statement - Bio

Artist's Statement

The goal of my work is to bring new insight, and to reveal beauty beyond the obvious. I focus on flowers because though most people are drawn to their undisguised visual splendor, many have not explored the wonders of their delicate, fragrant depths. My dynamic images allow you to see the dazzling intensity, erotic drama and character emanating from each individual blossom. Taken from the "butterfly's eye view," my pictures become works of abstract art - bold, contrasting splashes of color and complex texture weighed and balanced on the canvas in nature's sure harmony, each new floral vision a departure from the one before it. By changing the way you experience a flower, perhaps I can also change the way you experience the world around you.

My work requires nature to stop - the wind, the clouds, even the insects. It demands patience, stillness and split second responses. It also allows for meditation and celebration of life and it's many changes, including my own. Over 6 years ago I "kissed an air bag," my affectionate term for the auto accident that changed my life. My work represents my personal journey and desire for people to see beyond the obvious in me as well.

I photograph exclusively with digital cameras. I primarily shoot in natural light or what I like to call Mother Nature's Studio. My images are are not manipulated or enhanced in anyway. My images are printed using the finest digital printmaking technique, the CSI LightJet 5000. The LightJet exposes directly to photographic paper using red, green and blue laser beams. The resulting images are processed using traditional photographic chemistry and are custom printed on archival papers. I oversee the entire preparation and printing process. I limit my LightJet images to 50 of each image. All images are laminated and mounted with blocks for ease of hanging.

All images are available for purchase; please email Sharon for more details, at sharon@heartwoman.com, or visit the Gift Shop.
